• Chemistry 100
The renovated lecture hall at Hughes Laboratories Room 100 features state-of-the-art technology including dual projected computer screens, a computerized drawing board and power receptacles for each student.
  • Organic Labs
Major renovations of the undergraduate organic chemistry laboratories were finished in fall of 2011.  This new lab space features computer projectors, individual student hoods and student lounge areas outside of the rooms.
  • MALDI-TOF
The MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer allows rapid data collection of multiple samples via a 384 sample tray.  The gentle ionization and time-of-flight mass resolution allows researchers within the department to examine large biological macromolecules.
  • Pulse EPR
The department pulse EPR instrument is one of only a handful in the country capable of conducting measurements at Q-band.
Pulse EPR is a powerful technique for examining membrane proteins and transition metals in synthetic and biological systems.
  • Aaron Coey
Aaron Coey '11: My experience in undergraduate research and in the classroom greatly helped me along the way to becoming a successful scientist. I now feel fully prepared to begin my Ph.D. in Biophysics at Stanford University in the fall.
  • High Field NMR
The 850 MHz NMR was the first installed within the US and allows researchers in the department to determine protein and RNA structures.  Also within the department are two 600 MHz NMR spectrometers and a 500 MHz wide-bore solid state NMR.
