My research interests are in chemical education. I am currently involved with an implementation of the Workshop Peer-Led Team Learning model in the introductory chemistry courses. I am interested in finding the impact of this model on students and the impact of structured group work in general. I am very interested in demonstrations that can be used in a large classroom to illustrate chemical phenomena. I am also interested in demonstrations and activities that can be used at the pre-high school level to introduce younger students to the science of chemistry and spark their interest in science.

A second interest is working with teachers via inservice workshops to introduce them to chemistry activities that can be used in a pre-college setting. This effort includes Center for Chemical Education workshops, such as Active Chem for high school and middle school teachers and Teaching Science with TOYS for K-9 teachers. Associated with these workshops are the development and testing of written activities to be included in a continuing series of guidebooks of demonstrations appropriate for the pre-high school classroom.

A third area of interest is to investigate how multimedia technology can be used to effectively supplement and enhance the college chemistry lecture and laboratory experiences.
