What is the minimum GRE score needed for admissions into Miami University’s graduate program?

There is no minimum score for the general GRE exam required for admissions into the graduate program at Miami University.

Are the GRE Subject exams required for applying to the Chemistry/Biochemistry program?

While strongly recommended, we do not require applicants to take the GRE Subject exam. If students have taken the exam, they are welcome to submit official copies of their scores.

What are the minimum GPA, GRE/TOEFL scores for accepted students?

The minimum undergraduate GPA for accepted students is 2.7. Miami’s minimum TOEFL score is 80; we also require that accepted students score at least 20 on the speaking portion. There is no official minimum score for the general GRE exam.

Can the application fee be waived?

The Chemistry/Biochemistry Department does not have the authority to waive the application fee. How many students will be accepted this year?

Our Fall classes have ranged between 12 and 24 students over the last 8 years. The number of students that are accepted depends on the number of teaching and research assistantships available in a given year.

Are students accepted to start in January?

Over the last 8 years, we have accepted between 1-4 students to start their graduate studies in January. However, most new graduate students start in August.

When are decisions made about acceptance into the program?

The graduate recruiting committee starts evaluating applications in November (for August start dates) and continuously evaluates applications until the entering class is filled.

Can I visit the Department?

Domestic students who have submitted all of their application items can visit the department.

What is the deadline for applying to the program?

There is no official deadline for applying to the program; however, our Fall classes are normally filled by March 1st.

How much is the stipend for graduate students?

The 12 month stipend for teaching and research assistantships is at least $23,700 for 2013-2014.

Do graduate students have to pay tuition?

All teaching and research assistantships in good academic standing have a tuition waiver. All students must pay the University fees and must have some type of medical insurance.
